Noemi Iglesias

Asturias, 1987

Noemi Iglesias is an artist who defines herself by working with sculptural media and long-lasting performative formats. She is a clear example of contemporary nomadism: since 2009, she has lived and worked in Greece, England, Finland, Italy, Hungary, China and Korea. In 2019 she received a Master’s degree in Porcelain from the Tainan National University of the Arts where she studied about contemporary ceramic practices thanks to the Taiwanese Government’s ROC Taiwan Scholarship. In her work, she uses the traditional technique of floral production in porcelain, to represent the current commodification of falling in love, analyzing how emotional patterns are socially assumed as consumer icons in the production of a romantic utopia where, sentimental experiences are presented through products manufactured by specific industries, transforming emotional patterns into consumerist strategies. Recently, her work has been shown at the Gimhae Clayarch Museum in Korea, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Yingge Ceramics Museum, both in Taiwan; the Alcora Ceramics Museum, the Biennial of Ceramics of El Vendrell and the International Ceramics Competition CERCO. This year, Noemi has done a residency at the Porcelana Vista Alegre factory in Portugal, where she designed a line of functional products for the brand.

He has also been part of the exhibition “Generations” of Arte Informado, the JustMad fair with the gallery Espacio Líquido – La Gran, as well as a series of online exhibition initiatives such as ArteCovid19, CuArtentena, Just One Day and Queremos Más Arte of the DKV Arteria collection.

Soon, she will be part of the Faenza Prize in Italy and the Shanghai Academy of Arts and Design where she will attend as a guest artist. Her project IT Love has been awarded with the Lab Joven de la Colección Los Bragales Prize at Laboral Centro de Arte y Creacción Industrial. Gijón. She is currently studying and working in Lisbon where she is developing her research “Technoceramic Objects” within the PhD program at the University of Fine Arts.
