Rebel Heart # Noemi Iglesias

September 27 to October 31, 2019

Rebel Heart is an unprecedented exhibition proposal for Noche Blanca 2019 by artist Noemi Iglesias.

The project, takes as its starting point the protests and demonstrations held in Hong Kong to demand the withdrawal of the controversial Extradition Act 2019, analyzing the revolutionary symbolism and delving into the relationship between amorous desire and political transformation.

What is so radical about a concept as seemingly conservative as love?

Noemi Iglesias currently resides in Taiwan where she studies and researches on contemporary ceramic practices at the Tainan National University of the Arts thanks to the Taiwan ROC Scholarship from the Taiwanese Government.

Her work represents the current commodification of falling in love and how emotional patterns are socially assumed as consumer icons in the production of a romantic utopia where sentimental experiences are presented through products manufactured by specific industries transforming emotional patterns into consumerist strategies.

Noemi Iglesias is an artist who divides her work between sculptural and perfomative processes. A clear example of the mobility in which many artists of this time have found a way to develop and grow their skills, knowledge and discourse. Since 2009 Noemi has lived and worked in Greece, England, Finland, Italy, Hungary, Korea and China. She has recently completed a master’s degree in ceramics in Taiwan at the Tainan National University of the Arts thanks to the ROC Taiwan Scholarship from the Taiwanese Government, completing her studies with an outstanding grade. Recently Noemi Iglesias, has been selected to participate in the Yingge Ceramics Biennial in Taipei, in which only two Spanish artists participate among the more than 100 international artists invited.
