A project by La Gran and Espacio Líquido
at La Gran’s new headquarters in Carabanchel, Madrid.
“Moving” is the preview of the exhibition line that the two galleries will develop in their joint projects and the presentation of the artists who will star in several of them. Making a reference to the transformations that La Gran and Espacio Líquido are undergoing in recent times and to their role and that of the creators in the necessary change in the conversation and in the representation of immediate realities -which is the thematic axis of these future exhibitions- it also wants to be a declaration of intentions.
The exhibition is built with works by Ana Teresa Barboza (Lima, 1981), Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan (Cagayan, 1962 and Manila, 1965, residing in Australia since 2006), Moreno&Grau (Malaga, 1985 and Malaga, 1989) and Veronica Vicente (Pontevedra, 1988). It aims to focus on the “translation” that these artists make of the new scenarios caused by the persistent impact of human activities on the planet and the collapse of traditional values, categories and hierarchies. All of them, despite having formally very different works, share an intense reflection on their own identity in times of multiple uncertainties, creating landscapes that allude to a certain rootlessness.
All the works are stories or events related to constant change and the absence of fixed values, but also to the creation of a personal landscape that shapes an identity that is not defined in an immutable way, is expressed in relation or contrast with nature and, each in its own way, alludes to the end of the utopia that the Anthropocene represents.
Espacio Líquido+La Gran is the meeting point of the galleries Espacio Líquido (Gijón, 2000) and La Gran (Valladolid, 2015). The physical and virtual environment in which to develop common projects that make visible their proposals, those of the artists with whom they work and those of other agents related to their interests with the aim of evolving towards a more ambitious and flexible concept than that which they can contribute separately.
In parallel to the development of their individual identities, during the coming months both galleries will promote joint projects in a fluid environment open to the participation of other entities from inside and outside the contemporary creation sector, with the focus on insisting on a change in the conversation and representation of immediate realities.
