Teresa Gancedo was born in Tejedo del Sil (León) in 1937 and spent her youth in Madrid, alternating life in the capital with long summer seasons in her hometown, until 1960, when she moved to Barcelona, where she taught at the Facultat de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi. In 1972 he held his first exhibition in the Sala Provincia de León, presented by the poet Antonio Gamoneda. From that moment on she exhibited in Spain and abroad while building a body of work with great coherence and personality. In 1980,Margit Rowell selected her for the collective “New images from Spain” at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. In 2018, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (MUSAC) dedicated an extensive retrospective exhibition to her. Since 1982 he has worked as a tenured professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona. His work can be found in important collections such as: The Solomon R.Guggenheim Museum (New York), ING Art Center – Lambert Collection (Brussels),Artium (Álava), CAAC (Seville), MACBA (Barcelona), Museo Nacional Centro de ArteReina Sofía (Madrid), MUSAC (León), Chase Manhattan Bank (New York),Plácido Arango Collection (Madrid), Ashkenazi Collection of California among others.
